Workers’ Comp Scam

Share

I was appalled and sickened to read about the case of Dr. Mark Kaplan and his ex-wife, who together conspired over what must have been a considerable length of time to defraud the taxpayers of $30 million (Feb. 1). This must have involved filing dozens of bogus claims, each of which ought to constitute a felony, to add up to $30 million, which to my mind would be the lifetime earning of approximately 20 people toiling at minimum wage. As if doctors can’t earn enough by legitimate means to satisfy their avarice.

And our justice system merits this worthy of a total of 10 years incarceration, probably in a minimum security facility, with (I would imagine) parole in maybe five years.

This in contrast to a petty criminal, who in a moment of thoughtlessness swipes a piece of pizza, and faces 25 years to life in prison. It seems to me that our so-called justice system must be totally ethically bankrupt for this to be the case.
