Guest Worker Plan
I strongly object to Frank Del Olmo’s proposal for a Mexican “guest worker” program (“Open the Door to Mexican Workers,” Commentary, Jan. 31) in the United States, especially since unemployment remains stubbornly high (over 8% in California). Also, the welfare reform proposals now being considered would require that current welfare recipients go to work. Should these people be forced to compete with Mexican nationals for scarce jobs?
Any politician who supports Del Olmo’s guest worker plan had better look for new employment, and hope that a “guest worker” doesn’t get there first. Americans are sick and tired of being a safety valve for Mexico’s social and economic woes.
