HUNTINGTON BEACH : Ocean View High to Offer Magnet Program

Share

Ocean View High School next fall will launch a rigorous academic program that will offer college credit as part of a new magnet program at the school.

It would be the third high school magnet program in the Huntington Beach Union High School District.

Magnet schools are those that have special programs designed to attract students from beyond their normal attendance areas. Huntington Beach Union High School District currently has magnet programs at the School for the Performing Arts at Huntington Beach High and a math-science-technology magnet program at Westminster High.

The district school board approved the magnet program at Ocean view in a unanimous vote last week.

The vote created the International Baccalaureate Program at Ocean View. Assistant Supt. John Myers said it involves special classes in languages, history and sciences that can lead to college credit.

“It’s a very prestigious program,” Myers said. “It connotes a program of academic quality, and students throughout the district can apply to attend.”
