Two more residents will be added to the city’s three-member advisory Development Committee.
The City Council unanimously voted at its Feb. 7 meeting to increase the size of the advisory panel.
The Development Committee studies residential development proposals and then makes recommendations to the City Council.
City Manager Pamela Gibson, in a memo to the council, noted that council members had been discussing expanding the committee membership.
“The advantages include a broader input on issues relating to community design and community standards and opportunities for citizens to serve on a city advisory board,” Gibson said.
Mayor Wally Lin said the city would benefit from more participation. “I think five people’s input is better than three, and we’re fortunate to have qualified people in the city who can be appointed to the committee,” he said.
The change will increase the committee’s annual cost $300, Gibson said.
Development Committee members are paid $25 per meeting, and the panel meets six times a year.
The council cannot appoint the two new members until after late March, when the ordinance becomes law.
