GLENDALE : Homeless Center to Open Thursday
- Share via
City officials on Thursday will celebrate the opening of the Glendale Service Center, a new facility designed to aid the homeless and needy.
The service center offers homeless people, and those in danger of becoming homeless, a wide range of services including case management, employment services, health screening, psychological services and counseling, officials said.
The services are provided free by the city and local agencies such as the American Red Cross, the Salvation Army and other groups. The center is open Tuesdays and Thursdays from 2 to 5 p.m.
The center was created by the Glendale Homeless Coalition, a collaboration among the city government, social service agencies, churches and businesses that was formed in 1992 to study homelessness in Glendale.
In March, 1994, the coalition released a report containing several recommendations for homeless programs. The service center, which opened late last year, was one of the recommendations, officials said.
The opening celebration is at 5 p.m. at the center, located at the Salvation Army offices, 801 S. Central Ave.
