U.S. Approves Race in Remote Area of Utah
- Share via
Federal officials have approved a controversial 370-mile endurance race, called Eco-Challenge, through bighorn sheep habitat and other sensitive areas in remote southern Utah.
Beginning April 25, the eight-day race, sponsored by MTV and featuring 250 competitors, will take place in two national parks and three proposed wilderness areas. The racers will run, rock climb, ride horses and bicycles, swim, raft and canoe.
The Bureau of Land Management approved the race after altering the course slightly in an effort to keep participants off particularly delicate terrain.
