The Cutting Edge: COMPUTING / TECHNOLOGY / INNOVATION : Another FAQ Fact

Last week’s column told you everything you could ever want to know about Internet FAQs, or Frequently Asked Questions files. At least that’s what we thought. Then along came reader David Shochat to point out that scouring the Net for FAQs by various means may be good exercise, but there’s a better way: Use the World Wide Web.

Specifically, check out https://www.cis.ohio-state.edu/hypertext /faq/usenet/top.html for the best FAQ experience you could ever want to have. It’s a searchable compilation of what appears to be all known FAQs, complete with graphics and hypertext. Even if you don’t have a full-blown Web browser such as Mosaic, this thing is great. Just use lynx (at the command line, type lynx followed by that hideously long address, which is known as a URL, for Universal Resource Locater).
