Urged on by leading representatives of the local arts community, the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors went on record Tuesday opposing any cutback of government funding for public broadcasting and other publicly funded arts programs.

In a motion sponsored by Supervisor Zev Yaroslavsky, the board voted to support full congressional funding for the National Endowment for the Arts, National Endowment for the Humanities, the Corporation for Public Broadcasting and the Institute of Museum Services, and to urge the California delegation to lobby to maintain funding.

The board also supported an amendment by Supervisor Mike Antonovich that the arts and broadcasting groups also be encouraged to seek private funding.
