WILMINGTON : Hearing to Focus on Bridge Reconstruction
An application for a permit to rebuild the Anaheim Street bridge will be discussed at a public hearing today.
The Harbor Department plans to demolish the bridge, which stretches over the Dominguez Channel between Henry Ford and Sampson avenues, and rebuild it with six traffic lanes.
The project, expected to cost $20 million to $25 million, also includes bicycle lanes and improvements to lighting and drainage.
Although the work has been approved as part of the Alameda Corridor project, the Harbor Department still needs a coastal development permit from the city of Los Angeles.
The department’s project manager, Jim Kinkor, said the work is expected to begin in July and could take more than two years to complete.
One lane of traffic in each direction over the bridge would be maintained during construction.
The hearing will be in the community room of the Wilmington Chamber of Commerce, 100 E. Water St., at 2 p.m.
