OXNARD : New After-School Program Celebrated

Driffill School in Oxnard will celebrate the opening of its new after-school program today, educators said.
The public is invited to join in children’s activities and refreshments at the event, set for 3 p.m. in the cafeteria at the South E Street elementary school.
Designed to keep kids off the streets and out of trouble, the Driffill program allows children ages 6 to 12 to remain at school for supervised play or homework until 5:30 p.m., Monday through Friday.
The program is the second one to operate in Oxnard’s public grade schools. The first after-school program was launched last September at Lemonwood School, officials said.
Operated jointly by the Oxnard Boys & Girls Club and school officials, the program bridges the gap between the time children leave school and their parents get home from work, educators said.
