THE O.J. SIMPSON MURDER TRIAL : Trial Highlights

Share

Some of the key events Thursday in the O.J. Simpson murder trial:

* SUMMARY: LAPD Detective Ronald Phillips spent the entire day on the stand, telling jurors about Simpson’s reaction to the news of his ex-wife’s death and painstakingly describing the actions of police officers after the bodies of the victims were discovered. Superior Court Judge Lance A. Ito also met privately with DNA lawyers for each side.

* WITNESSES: Phillips was the only witness to testify Thursday, and he spent much of the day undergoing a gentle but persistent cross-examination by Simpson attorney Johnnie L. Cochran Jr. Phillips conceded he made some small errors in the initial stages of the case--telling a coroner’s official, for instance, that the victims appeared to have been bludgeoned or shot--but defended all his actions and those of other officers involved in the investigation.

* COMING UP: Phillips returns to the stand today, and is expected to be followed by Detective Tom Lange, the lead investigator on the case.
