Japan Talks With U.S. End Without Agreement: Japan rebuffed U.S. efforts to pry open its car market, with only small progress made in Tokyo talks between the countries and negotiators still far apart on key issues. Washington is demanding more foreign access to Japan’s car dealerships, a freer replacement part market and more purchases of foreign parts by Japanese auto makers. U.S. trade officials have said they are eager to reach an agreement by March 31 on what they have called one of Washington’s top trade priorities.
