Israeli warplanes and artillery blasted guerrilla targets in southern Lebanon after Iranian-backed militants attacked an Israeli border enclave. Israel’s six-hour retaliation included three air raids and thousands of artillery shells, raising the specter of a major showdown on the last flaring Arab-Israeli war front.
