Kelly Vaught’s puzzle-solving ability on “Wheel of Fortune” has helped the Red Cross solve some of its fund-raising problems in Orange County.

The Huntington Beach resident, a 1992 champion on the “Wheel of Fortune,” which airs locally on KABC-TV, was invited back for a special five-day competition taped last month at Walt Disney World in Orlando, Fla. These “Some of the Greats” shows are airing this week.

All the contestants were required to donate their winnings to charity. And Vaught, an Orange County native, gave his $124,900 jackpot to the local Red Cross. The money will be used for disaster preparedness and emergency relief services.

Vaught said that in light of the fires, floods and other natural disasters that have hit the county in recent years, giving money to the Red Cross “seemed like a natural.”

“With most of the people I know, their hearts go out to individuals who are less fortunate,” said Vaught, a national sales representative for Superior Electrical Advertising in Long Beach.

Vaught won $75,000 in cash and prizes when he appeared on “Wheel of Fortune” in 1992.
