WESTMINSTER : 500 Lose Power Briefly as Bird Brushes Wires
More than 500 residential customers briefly lost power Thursday at 10:27 a.m. when a crow brushed two wires, causing two transformers to fail, according to Southern California Edison spokesman Chris Brown.
Several traffic lights were also disabled or shifted to emergency four-way flashers, according to Westminster Police Lt. Bill Lewis.
All but 20 of the customers in the area--bounded by Hazard Avenue, Beach Boulevard, Hoover Street and Purdy Street--had their power restored in less than a minute. The remainder had power restored later in the afternoon, according to Edison.
There were no reported injuries, except for the crow. “The bird is history,” Brown said.
