Effort Fails to Block Ship Carrying Nuclear Fuel

CHERBOURG, France —
A British ship carrying reprocessed nuclear fuel left for Japan by a secret route Thursday after French sailors prevented anti-nuclear protesters from blocking the shipment.
The environmental group Greenpeace, which has vowed to shadow the Pacific Pintail along its undisclosed route, tried to stop it entering Cherbourg to pick up the nuclear fuel. But a navy tug rammed the Greenpeace ship Moby Dick and commandos stormed it.
