Following a fight using a baseball bat and a very large stick, two Thousand Oaks youths with gang ties were arrested on suspicion of assault with and possession of a deadly weapon, authorities said Friday.
The incident occurred shortly before 3 p.m. Thursday in Thousand Oaks Community Park, according to Ventura County Sheriff’s Department reports.
The two teen-agers, described as gang associates, encountered two other youths, who had allegedly threatened them in the past, authorities said. Upon seeing the youths at the park, the suspects left and returned with a baseball bat and a four-foot stick.
They then allegedly struck one of the youths one time before being overcome by the victims’ friends, who were also in the park at the time, deputies said.
The suspects who began the melee, both 16-year-old Thousand Oaks residents, fled and were later arrested at their homes by deputies, authorities said. The two were booked into county Juvenile Hall.
