Activist Receives 1st Circle of Life Award

Abortion rights activist and onetime state Senate candidate Carol Rowen has been awarded the Circle of Life award for decades of community service. This is the first year of the award, which is given by the Valley Jewish Business Leaders Assn.
Rowen, a member of the Los Angeles Harbor Commission, was on Mayor Richard Riordan’s transition team.
She received the award at a dinner at Temple Valley Beth Shalom in Encino.
She is chairwoman of the Los Angeles chapter of California Republicans for Choice and has done work for the Jewish Home for the Aging in Reseda, the United Way and other civic organizations.
The Valley Jewish Business Leaders Assn. is a support group of the Jewish Home for the Aging.
