Langley Succeeds Schmidt as President of Newport Corp.

Edmund K. Langley has been elected president of Newport Corp., an Irvine manufacturer of equipment for laser and optics technology development. He succeeds Richard E. Schmidt, who continues as chairman and chief executive. Langley joined the company as executive vice president and chief operating officer in April. Before that, he was vice president and general manager of the OEM Products division of Schuller International Inc. in Denver and chief executive of Norton Opax Inc. in Baltimore.

* Dale B. Bodman has been appointed managing director of the Orange County office of Leighton & Associates Inc., a geotechnical and environmental engineering firm. He also will oversee the firm’s environmental services group. Bodman’s previous experience includes more than 17 years with construction and environmental engineering firms, including the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and Mobil Oil Corp.

* Susan Ballou has formed Ballou Communications, a public relations and marketing consulting firm in Yorba Linda. She was formerly vice president of Rodheim Marketing Group. * John M. Owen III has joined Voit Commercial Brokerage Co. as vice president and managing partner of the Anaheim office. Before joining the company, Owen was managing director of the Inland Empire branch of Cushman & Wakefield and earlier headed the Anaheim office. He has also been director of sales and leasing for Irvine Co.
