PASADENA : Carjackers Attack Woman in School’s Parking Lot

Share

A school secretary was hit on the head with a pistol Monday when two carjackers attacked her in a high school parking lot and escaped with her car.

Alice Rodriguez was accosted by two youths about 7:30 a.m. when she was getting out of her car at Blair High School, Principal John Herrera said.

The attackers demanded that Rodriguez turn over her car keys, said Jarado J. Blue, chief of the school district’s police force, and they fired a shot into the ground to demonstrate their seriousness. One of the youths then hit Rodriguez in the back of the head with a handgun.

Rodriguez was treated at Huntington Memorial Hospital and released, Herrera said.

In response to the carjacking--the first in the district--the school has been given two additional security guards to supplement its four-person staff. The school will also increase patrol hours, Herrera said, adding that the incident occurred just before the guards were scheduled for duty.

The youths escaped with Rodriguez’s 1979 Buick Regal, Blue said, adding that authorities do not believe the suspects are Blair students.
