Mothers

Re “Boys Thrown From Bridge; Mother Held,” Feb. 22: Equally dismaying as the actions of Susan Smith--and now Donna Fleming--is the fact that millions of mothers in our society function near the “breaking point” every day. Motherhood was once given the highest esteem and respect. But today being a mother is simply not enough. Stay-at-home moms are made to feel that they are somehow inferior to “working” women in intelligence, ambition and importance to society.

The feminist movement has already proven that women can handle the tough jobs--scientist, attorney, astronaut, construction worker, etc. Now, how about giving some credit back to those who perform the toughest job of all?
