Edison Asks PUC to Stop Renewable-Energy Auction: Southern California Edison Co. continued its challenge of a state Public Utilities Commission program to support wind, geothermal and other renewable energy sources by asking the commission for an immediate stay, which would relieve the utility from having to sign long-term power contracts with 10 independent energy producers. Rosemead-based Edison contends that it doesn’t need new electricity generation. The utility recently won support from federal regulators who also called on the commission to hold off on the auction, saying that it violates federal law.
