OXNARD : Two Arrested in Police Gang Raid

Share

Two teen-agers were arrested in Oxnard on Friday during a police sweep of residences in response to a gang-related homicide last month in the city.

The 11 people targeted in the raid by 20 officers are on probation for criminal convictions and have ties to the gang believed responsible for the Feb. 23 shooting death of 14-year-old Gabriel Alcazar Jr., Police Sgt. Charles Hookstra said.

Two juveniles were arrested earlier in the week in connection with Alcazar’s slaying.

Hookstra said a 17-year-old youth was arrested in Friday’s sweep because he was with another gang member, a violation of probation terms. A 19-year-old Oxnard man was arrested on an outstanding traffic warrant, Hookstra said.

He said police will continue to crack down on gang activity in the city.

“We’ve had a number of incidents of escalating gang activity to deal with,” Hookstra said.

“We’re going to continue with the real proactive enforcement, using whatever tools we can.”

In addition to making the two arrests, police seized a variety of gang paraphernalia during the sweep, Hookstra said.
