A 52-year-old Oxnard woman died after her car hit a utility pole near Pleasant Valley and Wolff roads, authorities said Tuesday.
Ofelia Adamos was traveling westbound on Pleasant Valley Road about 3:45 p.m. Monday when she lost control of her car and slammed sideways into the Southern California Edison pole, according to Staci Morse, a spokeswoman for the California Highway Patrol.
Ventura County Deputy Coroner Craig Stevens said Adamos, who was wearing a seat belt, received massive head and upper body injuries in the accident, which occurred in an unincorporated area near Wolff Road.
Paramedics rushed Adamos to St. John’s Regional Medical Center in Oxnard where she died of her injuries about an hour following the accident.
Authorities Tuesday were investigating why Adamos lost control of the car.
“We don’t know why she had the accident,” said Stevens. “The roadway was dry. It’s a bit of a mystery.”
Officials said they did not know how fast Adamos was traveling at the time of the accident.
