Tight End Green Signs With Dolphins; Rams’ Chandler Agrees to Oilers’ Terms

The Pittsburgh Steelers lost Pro Bowl tight end Eric Green and the Rams lost quarterback Chris Chandler on Friday.

Green, who made the Pro Bowl the last two seasons, signed a six-year, $12-million contract with the Miami Dolphins, making him the highest-paid tight end in NFL history.

Chandler, who started six games for the Rams last season, agreed to terms with the Houston Oilers.

Defensive lineman Ray Agnew, the New England Patriots’ first-round draft pick five years ago, signed a four-year, $6-million contract with the New York Giants.

Said Green, who caught 46 passes for 618 yards and four touchdowns last season: “I think by playing for the Dolphins, I will reach my goal of playing in a Super Bowl or winning a Super Bowl. Everybody knows that I can block, but I want to prove to the world too that I can be a pass receiver.”

Green had visited the Raiders, who never made him an offer.
