Israel’s former top wiretapper has been appointed president of the company operating the country’s second cellular telephone network.

Cellcom announced Wednesday that former secret police chief Yaacov Peri will assume the position April 2.

Peri, 51, retired from the Shin Bet secret police last month after nearly three decades in the service that security sources say operates most of the legal wiretaps in Israel.
