IBM Pushes Its Warp Software: The computer giant said it will begin shipping its OS/2 Warp operating system with its personal computers at no extra cost beginning this month. Buyers of IBM machines will receive both OS/2 Warp and Microsoft Corp.’s rival Windows operating system. Today, most come equipped only with Windows. IBM has sold only about 1 million copies of OS/2 Warp, which was launched last year as a radically improved version of OS/2 aimed at consumers as well as businesses. By comparison, Microsoft Windows runs on more than 60 million PCs worldwide. Users of IBM PCs will be able to choose OS/2 Warp or Windows by merely “clicking” on an icon. The “Select-A-System” feature will be available later this month on all ThinkPad, Aptiva, PC 300 and PC 700 models with at least 8 megabytes of random-access memory.
