Public-Private Partnership to Establish Art Center Network

The Los Angeles City Council has approved contracts with nonprofit arts organizations to operate five community arts centers, including one in the Westlake district.
The public-private partnerships will compensate for budget cuts in the Cultural Affairs Department over the last five years.
Urban Pride Inc. and Friends of McGroarty Arts Center will operate, respectively, the William Reagh Los Angeles Photography Center in Westlake and McGroarty Arts Center in Tujunga.
The Art in the Park Council will run programs at the Art in the Park Center in Monterey Hills, the San Fernando Valley Arts Council at the Encino Photography Center and Other Side of the Hill at Lankershim Arts Center in North Hollywood.
Al Nodal, the Cultural Affairs Department’s general manager, said his department has raised about $650,000 in donations to fund the partnerships.
The contributions will provide funding for three years, and Nodal said he anticipates raising additional funds.
