Nevada Las Vegas Athletic Director Jim Weaver plans to interview Long Beach State Coach Seth Greenberg no later than Tuesday for the Rebels’ vacant basketball coaching job, Weaver said Saturday.

Greenberg’s success in recruiting in Southern California is among the reasons Weaver wants to meet with him.

“He’s done a good job recruiting in an area where we have to make an impact,” Weaver said. “He’s played a lot of big games against quality competition, and he’s demonstrated that he can coach well enough to win the Big West tournament and take teams to the NCAA tournament.

“He’s done a lot of things the coach at UNLV needs to do.”

Weaver also confirmed that Oregon Coach Jerry Green is a candidate for the job, which pays $300,000 per year. Sources close to Green said he will meet with Weaver tonight in Las Vegas.
