LA PALMA : Flashy Car Will Give Anti-Drug Message

Share

A flashy Beemer that can talk will soon be part of the La Palma Police Department’s anti-drug program.

Crevier BMW of Santa Ana is loaning the city a 1987 BMW 325i, and another donor, Tony Griego of Pursuit Specialties in Buena Park, is converting the car with lights, sirens and audio equipment enabling the car to “talk” to students about the dangers of drugs.

Police said the BMW will be driven to schools as part of the DARE (Drug Abuse Resistance Education) program. A remote-controlled tape recorder in the car will play messages to students.

Jim Kroh of Kroh’s Screen Graphics in Buena Park was another donor in the project. Police said he embossed DARE graphics on the car to make it “truly unique.”

The “Super Beemer” will be unveiled at 7 p.m. Tuesday in the parking lot outside City Hall, 7822 Walker St., prior to the 7:30 p.m. City Council meeting. Police Chief David Barr will formally accept the vehicle for the city during the council meeting.

Police said the successful search for a loaned car was led by Reserve Officer Robert Griffith.
