Venture Management, a Ventura-based company that assists clients in financing, mergers and technology licensing, says it has helped a San Diego firm receive Patent Office approval to license a newly developed power conversion system.

In addition, Venture has helped negotiate a licensing agreement and acted as financial adviser to its client, California Power Research Corp. The identity of the initial licensee and terms of the deal were not disclosed.

California Power claims its technology provides higher efficiency than was previously available in small, lightweight power systems. The San Diego firm expects its system to be used in such fields as telecommunications, personal computers, aerospace and electric vehicles.

Mark Shappee, Venture’s president, said his company is helping California Power conduct a worldwide search for other licensees. The first commercial products using the technology are now reaching the market, he added. “Licensing is a powerful tool for leveraging a small- or medium-sized company’s technology, allowing it to benefit from a larger company’s manufacturing capability and market position,” he said.

Venture has branch offices in Calabasas and Marina del Rey.
