Richest Americans’ Economic Fears Grow: The country’s wealthiest 1% are much more worried about their own and their children’s economic futures than they were just two years ago, according to a U.S. Trust Co. survey. About 83% of respondents to the survey said their biggest worry remains that “the next generation will have a more difficult time financially.” The greatest increase in what Americans fear is “not being able to maintain their income level.” That factor rose to 60% from 42% in 1993, U.S. Trust said. Inflation was also a major concern, with 77% of the respondents saying they worried that higher prices will eat away at the value of their investments, up from 64% in 1993.
