Construction began this week on a new Wal-Mart in Duarte. The store, scheduled to open in time for the Christmas holiday season, will contain 144,000 square feet of retail space.
The Duarte Wal-Mart is expected to bring annual sales tax revenue of $400,000 to Duarte and will create about 300 new jobs, Mayor James Kirchner said.
In addition to various retail departments from kitchenware to ski gear, the Duarte Wal-Mart will feature an in-store McDonald’s restaurant, a photo center, a pharmacy and an outdoor garden center.
Pomona officials recently announced that a Wal-Mart also would open in that city.
