Gerald (Jerry) Paventi, a longtime county resident and father of retired Ventura County Court Commissioner John Paventi, died Tuesday. He was 79.
The Newbury Park resident was born in New York and moved to Southern California as a child, said Stella Paventi, his wife of 53 years. Paventi worked for many years as a marketing manager for a furniture manufacturer before turning to real estate later in life.
He was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed fishing and sailing, his wife said.
“We had a sloop,” she said. “He loved the ocean.” She said Paventi would also prepare most of the fish he caught.
“He did a lot of albacore fishing,” she said. “He was a good cook--he was Italian.”
Other survivors include his grandchildren, Karin and James Paventi, both of Newbury Park; a brother, John Paventi of Westlake Village; and three sisters.
A private family service was held following the scattering of his remains at sea.
Funeral arrangements were under the direction of Pierce Brothers Griffin Mortuary.
