Lotus to Seek Review of Borland Case: Lotus Development Corp. said it will ask the U.S. Supreme Court to review a lower-court decision that cleared Borland International Inc. in a long-running copyright dispute with Lotus. The announcement comes after a March 10 ruling in favor of Borland by a three-judge panel of the First U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals. The panel said a federal judge erred in 1993 when he ruled that Borland had illegally copied parts of the Lotus 1-2-3 spreadsheet for its Quattro Pro program. Lotus, based in Cambridge, Mass., filed the lawsuit five years ago against Borland, based in Scotts Valley, Calif. An unfavorable decision reportedly could have cost Borland as much as $100 million.
