The Channel Islands Beach Community Services District--which includes Silver Strand and Hollywood-by-the-Sea near Oxnard--is sponsoring a hot dog roast today to rally support for two residents’ groups.

The roast, intended to support the area’s Neighborhood Watch group and a new emergency response team, will take place from 10:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Jack’s Sport Fishing, 3800 W. Victoria Ave.

Representatives of the Ventura County Sheriff’s Department, including personnel from a K-9 unit and a mobile police station, are expected to attend.

“We need to have residents in this area who know what to do in case of an earthquake or other major disaster,” said Debby Dye, who heads the Channel Islands Beach Community Neighborhood Watch, which was created six years ago.

Dye and others are hoping to recruit more residents to the Neighborhood Watch and emergency response team during the event.
