Dial 900, Go to Jail, Judge Warns Woman
A lonely Navy wife who rang up $45,000 in 900-number phone calls to psychic and horoscope lines has been ordered to stop and pay up--or go to jail.
Circuit Judge Thomas J. Bollinger on Thursday sentenced Jonita Anderson, 23, to three years in jail, but suspended the sentence on the condition that she make no more calls.
Prosecutors said Anderson left unpaid bills on 14 different phone numbers under her own name and nine aliases. She pleaded guilty to a felony charge of stealing from the phone company from March, 1991, through February, 1994.
