V-E Day in Moscow

Re “Clinton to Join Yeltsin in Moscow for 50th V-E Day,” March 21:

Upon hearing that President Clinton has chosen to commemorate the anniversary of the end of World War II in Moscow I am concerned. It strikes me as ironic that President Clinton, a representative of the United States, is not spending the anniversary in Great Britain. I think that it is appropriate for Clinton to spend the anniversary with a country that American soldiers died to protect. The comrades and fellow soldiers of Americans were British, not Russian. President Clinton is not acting in the best interests of the United States.

By traveling to Russia, it may seem that Clinton is endorsing Russian President Boris Yeltsin, who has committed humans rights violations; Yeltsin is also a president with little public support. By going to Moscow, the United States is brushing off an ally that has helped us for nearly a century. We may be sacrificing a century-old friendship in favor of an unstable friendship with an unstable country that may not even exist in its entirety within five years.

I have lived in this beautiful country for 20 years and never have I been as angry as I am now. I am appalled and disgusted and feel as if I, personally, have been slapped in the face by President Clinton at his latest in a long line of snubs of the British people and government by his refusal to attend the V-E celebrations.

However, having said that, what else could one expect from a draft dodger? It is quite obvious that Clinton, being the arrogant, ignorant man that he is, will continue to snub longtime allies in favor of extending his hand to a terrorist.
