A Simi Valley teen-ager died late Sunday afternoon after losing control of his motorcycle and crashing into a tree, authorities said.

Ryan B. Byron, 19, was fatally injured around 3:45 p.m. as he and a friend were driving eastbound on the 200 block of Country Club Drive, according to Simi Valley Police Officer David Cowand.

When rounding a left curve, Byron, who was driving a 1989 Honda CBR motorcycle, lost control and was thrown several yards, striking the trunk of a large tree, Cowand said.

Byron was taken to Los Robles Regional Medical Center in Thousand Oaks, where he died about an hour later.

The cause of the accident is not known, but excessive speed is suspected. Cowand said Byron had recently received a Department of Motor Vehicles permit allowing him to practice riding motorcycles.

Byron’s riding partner, whose name was not immediately available, was not injured.
