McNall’s Estranged Wife Is Sued to Recover Assets
The latest salvo in the Bruce McNall bankruptcy case has been fired by trustee R. Todd Neilson, who is suing McNall’s estranged wife, Jane Cody McNall, to recover an alleged $1 million held in a Swiss bank account and a substantial inventory of jewelry.
“The trustee contends Ms. Cody has a substantial quantity of property she is obligated to turn over to the trustee,” said Leonard L. Gumport, Neilson’s lawyer, on Monday. “Ms. Cody denies that and the court is going to decide.”
The suit is the second filed this month by Neilson, who sought to invalidate European American Bank’s $30-million claim against the estate and is trying to recover $20 million from the bank.
Much of the basis for that lawsuit came from McNall, the former owner of the Kings, and the same holds true for this latest action. In a meeting with Neilson on March 16, McNall disclosed the existence of an account at Swiss Bank Corporation in the name of Lunaco AG Vaduz, which was transferred to an entity believed to be called Global Trust for Cody.
Documents filed last week in U.S. Bankruptcy Court in Los Angeles allege that McNall transferred his own Swiss assets to Cody in 1992 with an intent to “hinder, delay and defraud his creditors,” including Bank of America and First Los Angeles Bank.
Court papers also contend McNall repeatedly bought jewelry he transferred as gifts to his wife. The jewelry was transferred to Cody as her property, yet McNall continued to represent to creditors that he owned significant jewelry.
