USC has ended its longtime relationship with flagship radio station KNX and is expected to soon announce a new deal, possibly with former UCLA flagship station KMPC.

KNX’s five-year, $5.5-million contract with USC expired recently and terms on a new deal could not be worked out. KNX’s staff was informed of the development in a memo.

Larry Kahn, a former KNX reporter who later worked for KMPC, and Mike Lamb, a former USC lineman who also worked for KMPC, are reportedly close to completing a package with KMPC in which they would be the announcers for football and basketball. Their deal calls for only weekend basketball broadcasts.

Kahn and Lamb declined comment.

KNX carried USC football for 28 of the last 38 years.
