SIMI VALLEY : Discussion Planned on School Closure

Share

Simi Valley school officials will hold an open forum tonight to discuss plans to close one of three elementary campuses in an effort to trim costs from next year’s budget.

The meeting will be at 7 p.m. in the multipurpose room at Berylwood Elementary School, 2300 Heywood St.

Simi Valley administrators and school board members will discuss the proposal to close Mountain View, Simi or Sycamore elementary school by fall.

Enrollment at each of the campuses has dropped in recent years, and school officials say they can no longer afford to operate all three schools.

Tonight’s discussion will focus on the district’s budget situation.

A second forum April 18 will address other issues related to school closures.

Simi Valley trustees are expected to vote on the issue at their April 25 meeting.
