GLENDALE : 2 Candidates Will Split Recount Tab

Share

Two candidates vying for a seat on the Glendale Community College Board of Trustees have agreed to split the cost of a recount after finishing just four votes apart in the final tally.

Unofficial results of Tuesday’s election had high school Principal Martin Pilgreen, who dropped out of the campaign several weeks before Tuesday’s election, defeating attorney Victor King by 19 votes.

But Pilgreen’s lead dropped to just four votes after officials with the City Clerk’s office counted outstanding ballots, known as provisional votes. These are votes cast by people who fail to turn in their absentee ballots on time or who are inexplicably removed from the voting roster and must register at the polling place.

Because the two candidates were so close, they said they will pay the cost of having the city recount the ballots. “I think it’s only prudent and appropriate to make sure everyone is satisfied and make sure all the bases are covered,” Pilgreen said.

He said the recount is expected to cost each candidate about $1,000.
