Guilty Plea in Defense Fraud Case: An ex-manager at Lucas Industries’ former plant in City of Industry admitted to falsifying inspection records for gearbox parts installed on Navy F/A-18 fighter jets. Byron Harrison, 63, pleaded guilty in federal court in Los Angeles to submitting a false statement to the Defense Department, said Assistant U.S. Atty. Bryan Daly. In January, Lucas itself pleaded guilty to criminal charges of routinely falsifying parts tests. The British firm paid an $18.5-million fine, the largest criminal fine ever levied against a military contractor in the United States.
