OJAI : Building Permit Fees Going Up in Cost

Share

Ojai contractors could see a 30% increase in the cost of some building permits as the city brings its fees up to date.

The city of Ojai now uses the 1991 Uniform Building Code, but it hopes to update the fees to comply with recommendations made in the 1994 code.

The council will discuss the fee adjustments tonight and is scheduled to hold a public hearing April 28.

The cost of some inspections might also rise. The charge for special inspections--such as those performed outside normal work hours--would increase from the current $36 per hour to $50 per hour if the City Council approves the new fee schedule.

However, some fees would decrease under the plan. “Minor animal permits” for owning small animals such as chickens or a lamb as part of a 4-H project would decrease from $194 to $64, and certain sign permits that now cost $123 would cost $75.
