Diplomat’s Wife Faces Theft Trial

Share

Aisha Khan, wife of the Pakistani consul general to Los Angeles, will stand trial on charges of shoplifting, a judge ruled Tuesday.

Although Khan pleaded not guilty, Van Nuys Municipal Judge Alan Ellis determined that there was sufficient cause to try her for shoplifting, which could bring a six-month jail term and $1,000 fine.

Since her arrest March 21, Khan, 41, of Westwood has maintained that she was unaware that her shopping companion, Kausar Lebherz, 39, of Windsor, Canada, was concealing merchandise during their visit to a Price Costco store in Van Nuys. Employees there say that both shoplifted silverware and pharmaceuticals.

Lebherz did not appear in court for her arraignment. Ellis has issued a $2,500 warrant for her arrest.
