ALTADENA: An Altadena-based environmental group has appealed a judge’s ruling that permits construction of the huge La Vina housing project at the base of the foothills to go forward. The Friends of La Vina say the 272-home project on the site of a former sanatorium on Lincoln Avenue does not comply with environmental regulations or the county’s plan for the area.

AZUSA: The City Council, by a 4-1 vote, has become the second in the San Gabriel Valley to adopt an ordinance requiring gun stores to register ammunition sales. Pasadena’s council last month was thought to be first in the nation to pass such a law. Azusa’s council also approved an ordinance banning ammunition sales during the week before New Year’s Day, Cinco de Mayo and the Fourth of July.

COVINA: The City Council approved a law requiring a 10 p.m. to dawn curfew for minors. Azusa’s council adopted a similar law April 3.

LA CANADA FLINTRIDGE: Planning commissioners approved the addition of a Petco pet store to the soon to be constructed Foothill Promenade Shopping Center. The center at 475 Foothill Blvd. will have a Starbuck’s coffee shop, Super Crown bookstore, Trader Joe’s and Blockbuster Video.

PASADENA: The City Council voted to develop a policy on the prospective 1996 state ballot initiative seeking to end government affirmative action programs. A council subcommittee will meet with the Affirmative Action Commission to make recommendations to the council. The commission is demanding that the city actively oppose the initiative.

SAN MARINO: Faced with the threat of a lawsuit by the city, the San Gabriel County Water District agreed to delay until Monday any further action on its plan to build two reservoirs and a pumping station.
