Storm Expected to Reach County Today
A cold Alaskan storm was expected to move into Ventura County in the pre-dawn hours today, bringing scattered rain and a chance of Easter morning thunderstorms, forecasters said Saturday.
Temperatures are expected to dip into the upper 50s and lower 60s, and snow levels should drop to about 3,000 feet. The cold, late-season rainstorm is unusual for mid-April, meteorologists said.
“It is unusual for this to be getting this far south at this time of year,” said Curtis Brack, a meteorologist for WeatherData Inc., which forecasts for The Times. “This is kind of the same stormy pattern that has been messing with Southern California all winter.”
Moderate rain is expected to fall before daybreak and taper off about noon. Isolated showers and partly cloudy skies should linger throughout the afternoon, Brack said.
The fast-moving storm was moving down the coast of California from the Gulf of Alaska on Saturday. It should pass through Southern California today before heading toward the Southwest, Brack said.
