* M. L. (Red) Keith Jr. has been named president of GTE’s California region, which is based in Thousand Oaks and serves 3 million telephone customers throughout the state. Keith, 48, most recently oversaw engineering operations for GTE in Dallas.

* Pat Gantos has been named executive vice president of administration for Cherokee Inc., based in Sunland.

Gantos will be in charge of customer service, distribution and administration for Cherokee Apparel and Cherokee Shoe. His responsibilities also include overseeing data processing and marketing information services.

He has been vice president of operations for Cherokee Shoe since 1989.
