Jacobs Wins School Board Seat

Jacqueline Jacobs is the first African American woman to win a seat on the Pasadena Unified School District Board of Education.

Jacobs defeated Del Yarbrough in Tuesday’s close runoff election in the district, in which 35% of the students are African American.

She replaces 16-year board veteran Elbie Hickambottom, who retired. Jacobs, 57, chairwoman of Pasadena City College’s Life Sciences and Allied Health Department, said she wants campuses to become “neighborhood centers” with a variety of after-school events for parents and students.
